FLEMINGTON, NJ, OCTOBER 5, 2009 – SAFE in Hunterdon October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time of reflection and
remembrance of those who have died as a result of this type of violence. It is also when organizations across the country renew their
dedication to survivors and raise public awareness of this important issue. As part of this campaign, SAFE in Hunterdon’s Clothesline Project
and Candlelight Vigil will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009 in Flemington.

Created by victims, primarily women and children who have used the services of SAFE in Hunterdon, the poignant collection of t-shirts will
hang around the town of Flemington during the day. The Clothesline Project is a therapeutic tool that allows victims to express themselves
and reflect on their experiences. The solemn Candlelight Vigil service will take place on the steps of the historic Hunterdon County
Courthouse on Main Street, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

The Vigil is a tribute to those who have died, those who continue to struggle, and those who are survivors of domestic violence. There will be
music, poetry, reflection and special recognition of two members of the community who have served the agency and its clients. Ms. Mary
Melfi, Hunterdon County Clerk, will be presented with the Communities of Light Social Justice Award.  Ms. Cathi Hynoski, a volunteer at
SAFE in Hunterdon, is this year’s recipient of the Helping Hands Healing Hearts Award. Everyone is encouraged to attend this moving
program and become more aware of the effects of violence on individuals, families and our community.
