FLEMINGTON, NJ, SEPTEMBER 28, 2010 -- Every October, as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, SAFE in Hunterdon holds a
Candlelight Vigil. Please join SAFE as we remember victims, renew our dedication to survivors and raise public awareness about domestic
violence in our community. The Vigil is an evening of music, poetry and reflection to honor those who have died, those who continue to
struggle and those who are survivors of violence.
The Candlelight Vigil will take place on the steps of the Historic Hunterdon County Courthouse on Main Street in Flemington on Tuesday,
October 6th from 6 to 7 pm. A keynote address will be given by Dr. Judy Postmus, Director of the Center on Violence against Women and
Children at the Rutgers University School of Social Work.
SAFE in Hunterdon will also present three members of the community with special awards. The Helping Hands Healing Hearts Award
recognizes an agency volunteer who exemplifies selfless giving in an effort to support survivors of violence and raise public awareness about
the social issue. The Community of Light Social Justice Award recognizes a member of the community, who through his or her profession,
demonstrates perseverance in the pursuit of justice for victims of violence. The SAFE in Hunterdon Exceptional Youth Leadership Award is
presented to a young person who, with constant respect and concern for others, demonstrates dedication to the issues of the violence and
abuse and exhibits excellent leadership in the community.
We invite you to attend this moving program and become more aware of the effects of violence on individuals, families and our community.
